In October of 2010, while Barry and Anna McGarrah were visiting the Palouse for an annual deer hunting trip, God led them to begin thinking about the many hurting people they came into contact with who were no longer in church or who had been hurt by other Christians and had walked away from God. Barry and Anna were both on staff at Crossroads Community Church in Nampa Idaho at the time, and decided to plant a new church on the Palouse.
They and their two young children moved to Moscow in May of 2011. They gathered a team of people who were not currently involved in a church and for six months built relationships with each other and started training as a team. During this time they also organized many community service projects throughout the Palouse.
On December 4, 2011 Intersect Community Church officially launched their weekly Sunday morning Gathering. After several years of growth Danny and Michelle Ellinwood were invited to move to Moscow from North Carolina to team up with the McGarrahs in the leadership of Intersect. After sensing God's call into counseling ministry, Barry and Anna moved back to the Nampa area in January of 2018 to begin an internship with faith-based Refuge Counseling. Michelle stepped into the role of lead pastor and Intersect continues to be a church with a simple mission:
Be a refuge of God's conditional love on the Palouse and make disciples of Jesus.
